Become a DMS Executive

Our previous UOWDMS executive team from 2020-2021 reflected on their experiences with the DMS, why they decided to join the society as executives and share their favourite part of their UOWDMS journey.

We are a small team of university students with a wide range of skills and experience. We love what we do, and we do it with passion. And, we need others like us to help keep our club running so that the DMS can continue to support the BCM students and faculty.

While being a DMS executive is a volunteer (and we stress, volunteer) role, it is extremely rewarding. Not only can you use your involvement and activities with the DMS as Digital Artefacts appropriate for university credit, your dedication to your role can be recognised through UOWx. You will also produce a diverse range of content to showcase in your professional portfolio. And, to top that all off, you will be working in a living, breathing communications team, giving you hands-on work experience that you can add to your CV for graduate programs and internships.

But, it’s important to understand what being a executive at DMS means. Below, is an outline of the different roles that exist within the club, as well as some basic expectations of our executives.

What’s in an executive?

You might be sitting there wondering if being a DMS Executive is a good fit for you. Well, the good news is, if you’re a uni student and you like making stuff – you’re perfect! But, as you know, the DMS exists to support students through their university experience and assist them in any way we can in doing their best, and learning new skills. So, this means that all of our executives should also strive towards the following qualities:

  • Easygoing: here at the DMS, we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Although we do have ~some~ serious stuff we have to take care of, we really do want every executive to enjoy their experience with the DMS.
  • Dedicated: the DMS has a strong online presence, and supports the BCM faculty in various ways. This means that our executives have to be dedicated to getting tasks done in a timely fashion.
  • Passionate: this is a volunteer role, so you really need to love what you do, and have a passion for helping others.
  • Professionalism: at the end of the day, the DMS has a reputation to uphold. So, all executives have certain expectations of their conduct both on and offline.
