My Fitness Advice For Students

How to Maintain a Positive Exercise Balance

Written by: Aleksandar Veselinovic

As a student myself, I know how hard it can be to juggle multiple things at once. It’s not uncommon to tell yourself that you don’t have the time to fit in daily exercise.

Well, what if I told you that 1 hour is only 4% of your day? Does that change your perspective on things?

You can be physically active virtually anywhere. Even at home. Who said you need a gym membership or fancy equipment?

As someone who has spent over 10 years being physically active, I have learnt a thing or two. Here, I will share my advice and help you avoid the easy mistakes to fall into.

Set and have goals

A common mistake I see and have experienced is failing to set goals. A goal can be as simple as losing 1 kilo in a month or as complex as being able to run a marathon by the end of the year. While giving you something to work towards, a goal can also hold you accountable for your actions. Failing to visualise a goal may lead you to keep making excuses.

Don’t be one of those people. Set goals!

Find something that interests you

Just like with any hobby, you wouldn’t spend your time on something that you didn’t like. This applies to fitness too.

If you like watching soccer or basketball, why not give it a try for yourself? It may take some time to find what you like but that’s okay. I have switched through multiple sports over the last 10 years and still plan on doing more. There is a whole world out there just waiting to be explored.

Create and maintain schedule

I understand that the student life isn’t easy. The one thing I always try to find time for is daily exercise. Whether it be a 15-minute stretch or an hour at the gym, I fit in what I can. You’d be surprised at the workouts you can fit into a 15-minute window. Find some time between classes or after school and go workout!

Workout with a friend/s

I find that I am often able to push myself more when I am working out with a friend. It is a lot more fun to work out when you are with someone. Sometimes working out alone can be boring and all it takes is a friend to change that. This way, you can hang out and also get fit at the same time.

Start now!

This is by far the most important point on the list. No one is going to be able to do it for you except you. If you want results, you have to work for them. The sooner you start, the sooner you will reap the rewards.

Sounds pretty simple, right? Well, it really is that simple. The hardest part is actually starting because once you start you won’t be able to stop.

If you want to live longer, be healthier and be happier then start working out.

So, what are you waiting for? Use my advice, go out there and explore the world of fitness!
